Morristown is known for its rich history and the vibrant town park, the Green. But the true charm of Morristown lies in its corners — the unexpected places that go off the path but lead you to something better. These local treasures include the quaint, Parisian-style bakery, The Artist Baker, and the cluck-tastic restaurant, Pollos Pucalor. Both of these places are different and unique in their own way. Let me tell you a little bit more about these places and the scrumptious treasures they hold!
The Artist Baker
We first start with a trip down to 16 Cattano Avenue in Morristown, where a small locally owned bakery sits. The Artist Baker, which opened in 2009 and is owned by Andrea Lekberg, is a must-go place for a quick croissant, a sit-down French-inspired quiche or soup, or just a hot chocolate in the cozy, rustic cafe. Known for its handcrafted pastries, the Artist Baker is considered one of the cutest and most charming local places in Morristown. Tucked away just off the main green, the atmosphere inside is warm and welcoming, often described as having a “Parisian” or “European” touch. The cafe extends to a lovely backyard brick patio, which provides a quiet, private dining space for the warmer weather. The bakery makes nearly everything from scratch in its kitchen. The quality of the food items is seen through the treats like house-made preserves and pickles, pistachio granola, s’mores cakes, and specialty items like Bread Pudding with Masala Toffee Sauce. One of my personal favorites is the homemade marshmallows paired with the rich and delicious hot chocolate. This dedication to quality makes The Artist Baker a must-visit spot and a true favorite for the Morristown community.
Pollos Pucalor
Different from the Artist Baker, this particular hidden gem prioritizes authentic local character over a sleek, modern, or conventionally “cute” aesthetic. Pollos Pucalor is an authentic Colombian-style Latin American food located in Morristown. The restaurant was opened in 1996 by Mr. Puentes. His main goal in opening Pollos Pucalor was to introduce the world to the authentic flavors of Colombian-style chicken. My family has been eating from this local treasure for years. We consistently return time and time again because the food is always so delicious and never disappoints. The main star of the show is the roasted chicken. It makes a perfect quick dinner or an ingredient in a tasty soup. Pollos Pucalor also makes other tasty sides like white rice, beans, plantains, and so much more. Everyone I have talked to about this place says it is absolutely amazing! Whether you’re a long-time fan of yummy Colombian cuisine or a newcomer ready to try something new, flavorful, and authentic, Pollos Pucalor delivers a consistently wonderful dining experience that keeps locals coming back for more. Find them at 239 Martin Luther King Ave, Morristown, NJ!
Both of these restaurants are delightful in their own ways. From a nice scone that will surely take you back to that starry Paris night, to the tender, mouth-watering chicken that will have you clucking by the end of the night, both of these places hold some of Morristown’s greatest and most delectable treasures, available for all to enjoy!!
