Ah, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The sweet and salty pickles, the crispy chicken doused in a spicy cayenne-flavored sauce, and a soft but always too-small bun. Obviously, you can tell it is one of my favorite foods, but there’s only one best, and that’s what we’re here to find out, so let’s take a look at the options.
#4 Dave’s Hot Chicken
It is the most new-gen, trendy restaurant in the United States, with a good, complex-flavored sauce and a high quality piece of chicken with flavorful pickles and a wide range of heat options. The locations I’ve gone to always have a kind young staff who are actually interested in your order. The restaurants have a fun vibe, with very colorful art all over the walls.
#3 Hangry Joe’s
The Hangry Joe’s location in Florham Park seems to only have a single employee and her name is not Joe, but she is nice, she makes up for it. This is a cool restaurant and the food is amazing, with chicken galore with a tangy sauce and a deep pepper taste. I have tried all but the hottest seasoning options, but only because you have to sign a waiver to order it and I’m under 18. Even if it doesn’t have the fun art or decor of some other chains, the fire painted on the walls and the fire in your mouth from the food makes it quite an establishment.
# 2 Jacob’s Pickles
The chicken is big and crispy, the flavors on point and the southern style biscuits buttery and delicious. But they are called Jacob’s Pickles for a reason: every sandwich comes with a huge stack of sweet and tart pickle slices so you get some in every bite. The environment is tough since it’s in NYC’s Moynihan Train Hall, which is always crowded with people going in and out of the train station. Because of this, it can be hard to find a seat, but the staff is kind and does get your food out quickly.
#1 Super Chix
Super Chix is my personal favorite. The service is pure and friendly, with engaging employees. The environment isn’t my favorite with games from 2018 on the many TVs, although it gives me a calm feeling since I don’t have to stress about the outcomes of the games. This place is a winner in taste, with a crisp, sour pickle and a huge slab of chicken drenched in sauce with an immediate hit of cayenne in the first bite. It is fire right out of the gate.
All these restaurants are great and have their own strengths: Dave’s looks cool inside, Hangry Joe’s has a nice employee and next level heat, and Jacob’s Pickles has buttery biscuits and giant piles of pickle slices. All excel in taste, service and environment, with different spice levels, but with their next level chicken and strong spice, Super Chix takes the top spot. Thanks for reading, and don’t take my word for it – go get yourself some deep-fried American heartburn!
