If you are living in the 21st century, you would probably know something called “6-7”. 6-7 (pronounced: six seeeeeeh-ven) is being used in almost every conversation with children, and is used with a hand motion by bringing one arm up, and the other down like you are weighing two items in your hands. It is insanely popular, but what does it mean? And is it still popular?
The Backstory of 6-7
There are two main backstories of 6-7. The first one is related to basketball. In the 2024 NBA season, the Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball was not doing too well. As a result, people started to roast him about his height and say he plays like he is 6 ‘1 ” even though he is 6’ 7”. The other part was the rap song “Doot Doot (6 7)” in 2024. One person who made this viral was ‘Mason the 6-7 kid’, who at a basketball game, was being recorded while saying 6-7. This immediately went viral, causing the start of 6-7.
What Does FMS Think?
I decided to interview several students as well as a teacher to see whether or not 6-7 is still popular, and also asked whether or not 41 and 8-9 were becoming a new trend. The responses were mixed. For 41 and 8-9, the majority indicated that it is not becoming more popular, with Omar, Hudson, Clara, and Jack F. all stating that it’s not becoming more popular at all. On the other hand, Leo and Oliver suggested that 41 and 8-9 are becoming more popular. Most people believe that 6-7 is still relevant today. Students like Leo, Oliver, and Jack F. support this view. However, others, such as Hudson, Mrs. Varughese, and Clara, feel that 6-7 is losing its popularity.
In conclusion, 6-7 became popular through social media, basketball culture, and music, quickly spreading among kids. While many people say it is still being used, others believe it is starting to fade as new trends appear. Overall, 6-7 shows how fast slang can rise in popularity and how just as quickly it can be replaced by something new. So what do you think? Is 6-7 over?
