Tortuguero
Tortuguero is a little island off the coast of Costa Rica. It requires a 1 hour and 30 minute boat ride to get there, but the experience is definitely worth it. On your ride you’ll enjoy the beautiful sights of the jungle, the stunning river, and may even see sights of wildlife such as monkeys and sloths. By the time you get to your hotel you can grab a bite to eat before heading to the pool for the evening. There are a variety of activities to do in Tortuguero. One of the most popular is jungle exploration. On this you will take a boat out into the canals of the forest, seeing many animals and wildlife. Maybe make friends with a howler monkey or explore the Tortuguero village. If you do decide to make Turteugero part of your next vacation, be sure to pack for hot weather. The average temperature in tortuguero is around 77 degrees fahrenheit, and even though this seems to be chilly, it may get hotter depending on the time and season. Something to be aware of is that many crocodiles and caimans live in the rivers and are very deadly! Also, the Caribbean sea currents are very strong and dangerous. Please do not go swimming in the sea or the Tortuguero River!
Arenal Volcano Park
Arenal Volcano Park can be found towards the center of Costa Rica and features a stunning volcano. This volcano is named Arenal, and is most famous for its unexpected eruption in 1968 and the fact that it is still active! Before it first erupted, it showed no signs of activity, forcing many people to believe that it was no longer active. However, the volcano unexpectedly erupted on July 27, 1968. Unfortunately, a total of 87 people died, and many were injured. Many people selling their land because the lava ruined the perfect conditions for farming. Others who kept their land eventually became tourist industries.
There are many activities to do here. Walk on 1968 Lava rocks is a popular one. This tour will take you on a hike up the hills made of lava from when the volcano first erupted with two different trail levels. The fee is $25 per person, but the views are definitely worth it! Another tour to consider is the Mistico Park Hanging Bridges guided tour. On this tour you will be taken into the jungle of Arnel and travel across several hanging bridges with a fabulous view of the jungle. It has a duration of around 1-3 hours and costs $48 per person.
Manuel Antonio park
Manuel Antonio is a park on the coast of Costa Rica. Many people visit for the mix of animals and beaches. One activity to try is hike in the parks. You will be taken onto the trails where you may be greeted by monkeys or iguanas. Many white-faced monkeys tend to be found laying on the railings as a way of heat relief. Once you have completed the hike you will be rewarded with crystal clear beaches. You can spot many different types of fish in the water. Just make sure to bring goggles because the water is salty!
