Everything has to come to an end. Whether it is the holiday season or the end of your favorite TV show, everything must end. When a Broadway show closes its doors, their respective theaters go dark and the marquees go down. This occasion often leaves doors open to take the just closed show on tour. In this edition of What’s On Stage, we will be discussing the latest and greatest shows that are leaving big, old Broadway and regional stages soon.
To start, a show that has been significantly successful, with an extended closing date over 8 times, Operation Mincemeat has been on Broadway since February 2025 and is set to close in April. A story about a WWII spy operation, this show has won one Tony Award and is set to run for at least two more months. Operation Mincemeat will also head on a North American tour after it closes on Broadway. If you aren’t able to make it before it closes on Broadway make sure to catch the North American Tour later this year!
Next, a show that isn’t officially closing, but Broadway superstar Jonathan Groff will have his last performance in Just In Time in mid-March. The show has not set an official closing date, but Jonathan Groff’s performance is one you do not want to miss! Just In Time is a show about music artist Bobby Darin and his life and career in music. Jonathan Groff gives an amazing performance that you will not want to miss!
Lastly, a regional show running for a month long at the Papermill Playhouse, Come From Away is a hilarious and moving show. This show is about the planes that landed in Newfoundland on September 11th, 2001 and the people who helped comfort those in fear, pain and sadness. Come From Away is a moving show that will leave you awestruck.Papermill Playhouse is in Millburn, about 20 minutes away from FMS and the tickets are reasonably priced. Hopefully, you can make the trip to see it.
As you can see, closing dates can be sad, but they can also be filled with surprises! When the final bow happens, you will see how much the show means, not only to the people on stage, but you too! I hope you can see any of these shows as they are limited and it is almost certain that they are closing soon!
