Have you ever wanted to learn more about Ms. Erlenborn, our chorus teacher here at FMS? Well, I interviewed her, and here’s what I learned about her and her career as a chorus teacher.
Falcon Press: How long have you been teaching chorus?
Ms. Erlenborn: I’ve been teaching chorus for seven years at FMS.
FP: Who or what inspired you to become a chorus teacher?
ME: My high school choir teacher inspired me to become one myself.
FP: What is your favorite part of being a chorus teacher?
ME: My favorite part of being a chorus teacher is that I get to teach the same students for multiple years. I love to watch them grow even through high school!
FP: What is your favorite song?
ME: “Sunrise” by Norah Jones.
FP: What is your favorite music genre?
ME: Folk or jazz.
FP: What is your favorite instrument (if you play one)?
ME: Handbells!
FP: What college did you study music at?
ME: Westminster Choir College.
FP: How do you pick your concert music?
ME: Depending on voice parts needed in classes and the theme of the concert, I try to pick music that comes from different cultures and countries.
FP: What helps you have organization before your concerts?
ME: To-do lists, checklists.
FP: What is your favorite of all the songs you and or your choirs have performed?
ME: “Twelve Days to Christmas” was fun because we used props and a lot of movement. Also “Nine Hundred Miles” because it is pretty and has great harmonies.
FP: What has been your favorite FMS memory so far?
ME: Winning Teen Arts with the Select Choir in 2019 and when the Select Choir performed for Morristown OnStage.
FP: What advice would you give to someone who is considering joining a chorus?
ME: Don’t be afraid to try it because you think you don’t have a good voice. It is my job to help you sound better!
FP: What do you do in your free time?
ME: Cooking, playing tennis, hanging out with friends.
FP: What is your favorite food or restaurant?
ME: Nina May in Washington D.C., and I love steak.
FP: Is there anything else you would like me to include in the article?
ME: People should consider joining the choir because it is fun to perform together and we have a great time.
