Welcome back to the Hunger Games review series! Today, we compare and contrast The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie and the book. We think Catching Fire was even more exciting and action-packed than the original, leaving us on the edge of our seats!
All of the Hunger Games books were also turned into movies, but which one is better and more popular, the book or the movie? Some say the movie is better, and others disagree. The thing is, everyone has their own opinion, so let’s compare for Catching Fire.
Catching Fire Movie and Book Similarities
Some similarities between the book and the movies are that they have the same original characters, Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch, Gale, and Prim, who are all in the story as recurring characters The general storyline is the same as the original where Katniss and Peeta become targets of the Capitol. Just like the other books and movies, they meet new people just for them to be killed during the games or rebellion. The movie follows the book closely, but with a huge plot twist at the end! It is much more dramatic in the book than in the movie due to the descriptions, so readers can visualize it.
Catching Fire Movie and Book Differences
The second Hunger Games book follows Katniss throughout her journey but in the movies, it follows a more versatile plot. There is more in the movie following more characters, like the commentators.
Another aspect about the movie that isn’t like the book is that the movie sometimes skips ahead of time, while the book doesn’t. In addition, some of the descriptions are different than originally written. For instance, in the book, they say Katniss is wearing a flaming dress, but in the movie she’s just wearing red rubies and jewels. They could have used CGI to create fire for the movie, but they went in a different direction.
Sam’s POV: Why the Book is Better
I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying the movie is way better than the book, but I just don’t see it that way. The book is filled with so much detail that it keeps you on your toes, letting your imagination run wild. It gives you all the information you need, while the movie skips right to the action and drama. Honestly, while watching the film, I felt a bit lost; if I hadn’t read the book, I probably wouldn’t have understood the plot at all. So, for all these reasons, I believe the book is better than the movie.
