Picture this: You’re sitting in the middle school auditorium, getting ready for the experience of a lifetime but then you start thinking. How does a school musical work? What leads up to this moment? Well in this article, you will be on the inside of how this magical experience happens and how much work the amazing cast and crew put into this year’s FMS spring musical.
First, you will be on the inside of an experience of a cast member. The cast has worked on this musical diligently, from dance rehearsals to full-day practices. Many of the practices were from 2:18 pm to 5:00 pm for practices and dress rehearsals, so the cast was pretty busy. Some weekends, the cast practiced from 9 AM to 4 PM! The week of the show, there were dress rehearsals from 5 PM to 9 PM. The experience could be stressful but the director, Mrs. Montague, really has a huge heart and a loving personality. Mrs. Bozza, the other director, gave us a lot of direction in a fun and caring way to help us be great. Together, Mrs. Montague and Mrs. Bozza have been the FMS Spring Musical directors for over 20 years now. Both teachers are retiring from directing the show after this year. We will miss them, but we are sure that next year’s director will be almost as amazing as them. To conclude, the cast works very hard to make everything work. We are very happy to have been a part of this production and the play family.
Next, enter the world of a crew member to see a real-world perspective of what these amazing crew members do behind the scenes. The musical would never have happened without them, so they should definitely get the recognition they deserve. From making and painting the sets to getting them on stage at the right time, they are very important and help the show come to life! A crew member said that she and her other crew members worked hard to get the show going. She also said that there was a lot of direction with the props and sets. And of course, this person also said that she loves being a part of this “family” and has made a lot of friends worth keeping! To conclude, the crew of this production were essential to the show and were constantly running around to really let the show reach its full potential. Thank you, crew!
Although FMS has presented Beauty and the Beast in the past, this year’s production was so special. The songs that we enjoyed performing the most was Belle and the Mob Song. Belle was the first song of the show and the cast did an amazing job portraying their characters in the song. It was entertaining for us because we were acting as we sold our items while Belle was singing. Also, singing the Mob Song was fun to shout in order to perform it. Working with this year’s cast was a great experience because everyone was nice and we all made new friends. Finally, what made this production very memorable was that it was Mrs. Montague and Mrs. Bozza’s last year as our FMS theatre directors. We will miss them so much. They have done an amazing job directing the FMS spring musical each year.
To conclude, the cast and crew both did a fantastic job making this show come to life at FMS and we thank everyone who came to this amazing show and helped FMS create this fantastic community.
