The History of The Met 

​​ The Met Gala happens on the first Monday of May and is a charity event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has earned almost over 175 million dollars. There is always a specific theme that celebrities use to plan their outfits. The Met Gala has been happening since 1948 and the most-loved theme was Anglomania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion (2006). The Met Gala has a long history of themes such as: Charles James: Beyond Fashion (2014), China: Through the Looking Glass (2015), and Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology (2016).

About This Year’s Theme

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Karl Lagerfeld was a fashion designer who passed away in 2019. This year’s theme was based on his old designs. They were many Channel-designed suits and dresses. Although there were some colors but most wore monochromatic outfits. Many celebrities wore designs designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Outfit Meanings

Many celebrities wore mostly pearls and several others represented Karl Lagerfeld’s love of cats. Doja Cat had face implants to make her face look like a cat (see image). Jerad Leto wore a life-size cat costume. Many celebrities had cat purses as well. Some people were off-theme with bright pop colors and many just wore black and white. There were some misunderstood looks as well. Many wore extravagant dresses and suits. As for the accessories, the jewelry was stunning and almost everybody looked so fantastic!

Though there is so much history surrounding the Met Gala, and the outfits are always unique, I would say this year was amazing. What do you think?
