Alicia Keys is an amazing singer who puts time into her music. She is also not insecure about her skin and face. She is one singer I know that rarely uses make-up. This is because she believes that using makeup is not good for your skin and after time, it may cause negative effects to the skin. So read on to hear more about Alicia Keys and her makeup and skincare brand.
Early Life
Alicia Augella Cook, Alicia Keys’ birth name, was born on January 25, 1981, in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, New York. Keys was only four when she began performing in front of a live audience and at the age of seven, she started to learn how to play piano. As she got older she concentrated mainly on jazz and classical music. When she turned 14 she began composing her own music and two years later she graduated from a great performing arts school in Manhattan. Later, in 2002, Keys won 5 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Best New Artist awards.
Your Skin is Beautiful
Alicia Keys wore makeup almost all the time because she was trying to hide the imperfections on her face and she always cared about what people thought of her. However, after awhile, she realized that she didn’t have to wear a lot of makeup to hide who she actually was. In US Weekly, Keys states, “I think it was just the awareness of how much we subscribed to social standards of beauty, and I didn’t really think of that before…It opened my eyes to how I didn’t feel comfortable or beautiful if I didn’t have my ‘armor’ on, and if I didn’t have all my face and hair and pretty things and nice clothes on that somehow I was less than beautiful or just less than. I realized, like, Whoa, what’s underneath all that? It allowed me to have a conversation with myself about how I wanted to feel and even what I wanted to let go of” (US Weekly). This shows that even singers are insecure about how they look, but they can eventually learn that they are beautiful the way they are. Alicia Keys called her makeup her “armor” and she said that she felt like she didn’t know herself without makeup. She even stated that she didn’t feel comfortable, and beautiful and it sometimes made her feel less than she was.
Have you ever felt this way? Maybe you’ve felt this way before, but take a moment to yourself and think about how you want to feel, not how anybody else wants you to feel. After Keys decided that she wanted to feel comfortable in her skin, she came up with a makeup and skincare brand called Keys Soulcare. Now you might be thinking, Oh, this is just another advertisement for a makeup/skincare brand, but it is not! This brand is different. It is made out of all-natural, clean, gentle, but effective ingredients that are healthier for your skin and help you feel comfortable in the way you look.
To conclude, Alicia Keys is very inspiring, not only with her music, but also how she promotes feeling comfortable in your own skin and the use of natural products. She still creates music to this day and her brand is BOOMING! Go support her music and check out Keys Soul Care so you can feel confident and comfortable in your skin.
