Let’s take a trip around the world and discover some international cuisines without boarding an airplane. The countries we will be exploring today are India, Columbia, and Canada. These are some great places to go for a flavorful meal or delicious snack for everyone’s unique taste buds.
The first place we are headed is our neighbor in the north: Quebec, Canada. One of the top and most popular dishes in Canada is called poutine. Poutine is a dish that has a plate of french fries, topped with melted cheese curds topped with steaming thick hot gravy with a very rich taste dripping down onto the fries. This dish originated and started around the 1950s and has been a popular dish ever since. This is the one dish that is served in almost every restaurant in Quebec.
Another hearty meal you should try is called Boeuf Bourguignon. This is a dish that is rich in flavor and is a hearty winter meal. This hearty stew has beef tips and root vegetables roasting low and slow in the oven. This dish was first created in 1867 and is a very popular dish during the harsh winters when Canadians want to keep warm. It is also a perfect dish to freeze for leftovers.
This next dish is called Fèves au Lard, better known as baked beans, which originated in the 19th century. This dish might have been inspired by the dish Boston baked beans. This dish is a little sweet from the molasses with white navy beans. This is a salty dish that has pieces of bacon or beef that is juicy and appetizing, but very filling on a cold winter morning . A bit of the ketchup will give the beans a salty taste that brings the whole meal together.
The next place we are going is our friends across the Pacific Ocean to India. One of the most popular dishes in India is called biryani. Biryani is a mix of different ingredients such as vegetables, chicken, and beef. In other versions of this dish, people sometimes put eggs or potatoes in biryani. This dish is from the northern part of India, but you can find a version of this dish in the Middle East and southern parts of India.
One of the national dishes of India is called chicken tikka masala. Chicken tikka masala is an orange-colored sauce with chunks of stewed chicken in a creamy tomato and yogurt base that is scrumptious. The sauce can be eaten with some naan bread for dipping or with rice.
The last place on this culinary trip is Columbia. The first food we are going to discuss is called the empanada. Different styles of empanadas can be found throughout South American countries. Empanadas are stuffed bread pastries filled with add-ins that are usually baked or fried. They come in different flavors like beef or chicken, vegetarian, spicy, or mild. Empanadas are soft when served warm with salsa. It is great for snacking.
The last dish from Colombia is arroz con pollo. This is a chicken-based meal that translates to chicken with rice. The chicken in this dish is moist and full of warming spices like paprika and cumin. The crispy chicken skin is so crunchy, salty ,and delightful that you could eat it alone. Arroz con pollo is typically served with a side of beans and fried green bananas called madoros. A place you can go locally for some arroz con pollo is called Pollos Pucalor, right here in Morristown.
In conclusion, we have visited Colombia, Canada, and India with unique and diverse dishes that everyone should try. You should also try foods from other countries and learn about the different cultures and foods that they serve there. Are you ready for some different delicious dishes?
