Haniyah Hill, a 6th grader at Frelinghuysen Middle School, has made an appearance at Morristown’s “Morristown Onstage” event. Now Haniyah shares with us not only why she joined the performance, but also how she started singing. Read more to see what she has said.
Falcon Press: Why did you join Morristown Onstage?
Haniyah Hill: I joined because of my Mom and my Dad and I love singing.
FP: Was this your first time participating in Morristown Onstage? How do you feel about performing at such a popular event?
HH: This is my first time and I feel really nervous and proud of myself.
FP: Why did you choose the song that you chose to perform?
HH: The song I chose is Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston. I chose it because I’ve done it multiple times and because more fundraisers are happening and this song explains how children are our future.
FP: What are your goals when it comes to performing?
HH: To always believe in myself and if people don’t like it, I know some people do.
FP: Do you feel that this is a big step for your singing career? How long have you been singing? How has your singing progressed as you’ve gotten older?
HH: Yes, and since the age of 2. I have learned way more skills as I’ve gotten older. I’ve gotten more practice. I think that since I’ve grown up, my singing has gotten better.
FP: What advice would you give to other singers who are too afraid to sing in public?
HH: Believe in yourself, have confidence. And if other people don’t believe in you, just know that others do.
FP: Do you perform anywhere else? What do you do besides singing?
HH: I do perform in other places. Parks, churches, and family events are a couple. I dance and do drill for the Unity Steppers. I have siblings who I play with in my free time.
FP: What/Who inspires you to sing overall?
HH: My Mom, my Dad, and Whitney Houston. My Mom and Dad did Morristown Onstage twice and Whitney is one of my biggest role models.”
Haniyah, a singer who has been singing since age 2, has been growing her abilities with her singing and her work has definitely paid off. As one can see, Haniyah Hill is a very talented person who has taken a huge step in her singing career by performing at Morristown Onstage.
