Do you ever look at a mountain and think, “I wonder what I would find if I went inside there?” Well, you might have an idea from science class but Undertale has a different story for you. Undertale is a RPG (Role Playing Game) about a young child who falls down a hole into a place that the locals call ‘the Underground’. You could almost say the kid had a downFALL. (Yes, this is the game that Sans the Skeleton originates from.) The citizens here are not human but monsters and these monsters come in all different forms, from skeletons to fish people. Your mission? To find a way back home. Along the way you get to choose whether to spare monsters or kill them.
Not many people know what Undertale is due to it being an older game. It’s not 1970’s old, but it is from 2015.
The game has an amazing soundtrack of different types of music from calming, relaxing instrumental like, “It’s Raining Somewhere Else” to super intense boss beats like “Megalovania”. There are many various levels like the Ruins, Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotland, and finally, the Castle. There are also a lot of interesting characters. If you play Undertale, you’ll meet the mascot of Undertale, Flowey the Flower! Flowey may seem nice but he really just wants your soul. If you made it to Snowdin, you’re bound to meet the most recognized duo of Undertale, the Skelebros!! (short for ‘Skeleton Brothers). The names ofthe Skelebros are Sans and Papyrus, two of my favorite characters. Those two work themselves down to the BONE.
The backstory of Undertale is quite sad, actually. There was a battle between the humans and monsters. The humans won the war and sealed the monsters underground with no escape. As the years passed, society changed for the humans, as well as for the monsters. Slowly, as King Asgore Dremurr came up with a plan to free the monsters from their prison, he realized that he had to collect seven human souls and so far, he has collected six. That is where the player Frisk the human comes in. The player must avoid being killed, letting the king get the final soul and freeing the underground, letting them roam on the surface once again.
I recommend this game to anyone who likes adventure, fantasy, and fighting. Just a warning, however, that this game includes fantasy violence, mild blood, mild language, and use of tobacco. If Undertale sounds like a game you’d like to try out, then go ahead and play it! I hope you like it as much as I do!
