Do you believe in ghosts? Are you interested in unexplained mysteries? Well, this ghost story might be for you. This is the story of Kate Morgan, also known as Lottie A. Bernard, the ghost who haunts the historic Hotel Del Coronado.
What is the Hotel Del Coronado?
The Hotel Del Coronado is a famous hotel on Coronado Island, California. It was built in 1888 by Hampton L and Elisha Babcock. It was known for its spectacular building style, and being a seaside resort at the time. Due to its fancy design, it attracted wealthier families so they could show off their money. Over time many more celebrities visited such as Marilyn Monroe, Babe Ruth, Thomas Edison, and William McKinley. But it was not all happiness and success for the Hotel Del Coronado, as it cannot get away from the mysterious hauntings of Kate Morgan.
Who is Kate Morgan
On Thanksgiving day in 1892, a young woman checked into the Hotel Del Coronado’s room 302, now 3327, under the name Lottie A. Bernard. She was well-dressed, carrying only a small handbag. She seemed very upset and mainly stayed in her room, only talking to the housekeeper who came occasionally to clean up the room. The housekeeper later revealed that she was looking for her brother Albert Allen who was supposedly coming to visit her with her luggage. But many days passed and her brother never came. She became increasingly unhappy and seemed to lose hope that her brother would ever show. On the morning of November 29 the hotel electrician found Miss Lottie A Bernard dead on the hotel steps leading to the ocean. It was later discovered that she entered the hotel under a fake name of “Lottie A Bernard” and that her real name was Kate Morgan.
Unexplained hauntings
Even though Kate Morgan had died a long time ago, it seems that her spirit never left. I heard this story from a hostess at Sheerwater at the Hotel Del Coronado. Many people come to the Hotel Del Coronado on business trips, and one man came for one. He had a room to himself at the hotel when while sleeping forgot he was in a hotel room alone. He thought he was at home, hugging his wife. But he suddenly woke up and realized he was not home, he opened his eyes and saw a silhouette of a young woman. He jumped out of bed and turned on the lights and all he saw was the sheets slowly drifting down. This is not the only time people have found unexplainable hauntings in this room. People have reported seeing Kate’s face appear on the TV screen and the steamy windows, seeing shadows of a woman appear on the walls, lights flickering, and having objects thrown around the room. The Hotel Del Coronado even went out of its way to hire a paranormal investigator to investigate the room but none of the mysterious happenings could be scientifically explained.
Now that you have learned all about Kate Morgan and her hauntings, would you still stay in Hotel Del Cornodo’s room 302?
