The Metaverse

Imagine putting on your VR headset, and then going to a virtual lunch with your grandparents, who live in another country.  Soon, you may be able to do this in the near future using the Metaverse!

What is the Metaverse?

What’s the Metaverse? The metaverse is a virtual reality where you can do everything you do in the real world, without moving from the comfort of your couch. The Metaverse was first introduced in 1992 in a sci-fi novel called Snow Crash. This is where humans, as programmable avatars, interact with each other and software agents, in a three-dimensional virtual space that uses the metaphor of the real world. The Metaverse was also used in a popular novel called Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, which also became a movie. The Metaverse is now being made real by Facebook. This might take another 10-15 years to complete. The Metaverse is only starting now, but if the Metaverse is possible in the future it would be much different than what it is today.

How it Could Change our Daily Lives

Imagine waking up in the morning to your alarm clock, completing your daily routine, and then putting on your VR headset to have lunch in the Metaverse with your friends. In the Metaverse, you could do anything you want, but without moving from your coach. In the Metaverse, People are now buying properties for prices from $6,000 to the most expensive Metaverse property sold so far, being $5 million! A lot of people, when they buy a house or an apartment in the real world, are now also getting the very same property in the Metaverse. The Metaverse can also aid us in other ways like seeing and interacting with people who are very far away. Imagine putting on your VR headset, going into the Metaverse, and seeing your pen pal for the first time who lives in China. Instead of just Facetiming them, or just talking to them on the phone, you can have a virtual lunch with them or play a game together. The Metaverse can also help us visit the doctor if you’re sick. Using the Metaverse, when you are sick or not feeling well, instead of possibly infecting a doctor or possibly another patient, also you don’t have the comfort of your home while you’re not feeling well.

How It Could Affect Our Education

Picture this: you wake up, and instead of getting ready to walk onto a bus, put on a VR headset and join your class on a virtual field trip into space, where you can explore the galaxy and learn about our universe while having a blast! Before, this was a fantasy or science fiction, but very soon, this may become our reality using the Metaverse. Instead of another boring classroom which you’re all familiar with, you could go into a “Virtual Classroom”, which is everything but a boring classroom. Using the Metaverse, you can explore the universe in a virtual rocket ship, or do a science experiment with nuclear bombs safely from the comfort of your house. Though, staying at home and being able to explore galaxies seems nice, there is always a downside to everything. If you had a virtual classroom, when you were sick, you would still mostly be able to go into your virtual classroom and not have a day off. Probably the most important thing is that virtual classrooms would prevent snow days. The only way we might have a marvelous day off is if the power went out.

Conclusion

To conclude, the Metaverse can change our lives in good ways, and bad, but most importantly, our lives would

be forever changed. Are you looking forward to using the Metaverse?
