Avril Lavigne
January 19, 2022
Avril Lavigne is no stranger to having her music in movies, but she’s never quite had a movie BASED on her music. When recently appearing on the iHeart radio podcast “She Is The Voice,” Avril revealed that she’s turning her classic 2002 hit “Sk8er Boi” into a feature-length film.
With the song turning 20 in a few months, Lavigne discussed on the podcast how, “recently with it being almost the 20th anniversary, a lot of people have been asking me to play this song on TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up and people will always reference it to me.” She added: “And so, I’m actually going to turn this song into a film and take it to the next level.”
However, that’s the only thing that’s been revealed so far. There have not been any casting decisions revealed, nor virtually anything else. The only thing that’s really known about it so far is that it’s going to happen. Avril did reveal the story and inspiration behind the piece though (if it could be made any more obvious.) She remarks that “it’s kind of like a missed opportunity at love. The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl but like she’s too cool for him but then five years from now she’s feeding the baby and she’s all alone and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society’s expectations.”
As for Avril’s part in the film’s production, it’s currently unknown as to if she’ll be the one writing the script, or just a producer. Listen to the full podcast episode here: https://www.spreaker.com/user/9808787/avril-lavigne-podcast
