How Great was the Wii?

The Wii was iconic during the time from November 19, 2006 to the day of the Wii U release on November 18, 2012. I remember having friends over to play Madden 12 and thinking they were the greatest graphics of all time. When compared to the newest edition of Madden, which is Madden 18, they could now be regarded as awful, but they still bring back great memories. Almost everyone knows what a Wii was, but how successful was it actually?

The Wii sold over 101 million units, and is the 5th best selling console ever (Statista). The number of games that were made for the Wii sways around 1,262 games.  Compared to other, newer, Nintendo consoles, this is quite the achievement. The Nintendo Switch, the newest Nintendo console, is placed at the 20th best selling console, and right behind it in the 21st place, is the Nintendo Wii U (Statista).

The Wii allowed people to be more mobile while playing video games because of the style of the controller and the play style (The Mysterious World). Games like wii sports were more about moving your controller to make the right timing and movements, and less about strategy.

Obviously, as you can see, the Wii was quite the popular achievement for Nintendo, and a landmark and a revolution for consoles and controllers, as well. While being fun to play, with more than 1,000 games, and suitable for all ages, the Wii was one of the greatest consoles ever, and it had one of the greatest impacts on consoles to come.
